Description
Lower Skilts Farm building and attached barn, located approximately 50 metres west of the farmhouse, date from around 1560 to 1570, with 19th-century alterations. The main building is constructed of dark red English bond brick featuring blue brick diapering, while the barn is primarily made of 19th-century red brick. Both structures have 19th-century tile roofs. The building has a first-floor opening from the 19th century and a door inserted on the left return side. The right return side features partially blocked two-light stone mullioned windows on each floor. The barn, which is attached at right angles to the rear, consists of three bays and includes plank doors and air vents. At the rear, part of the wall showcases 16th-century brickwork. Inside, there are brick spur walls that support tie beams. This building is part of a group that includes the gatehouse and attached building and wall, as well as a section of wall, representing the remains of a house that replaced the Grange of Studley Priory.
