Description
The wash house located between numbers 8 and 9, The Ten Cottages, was built in 1848 and is likely designed by Edward Blore for Earl Spencer. The front is made of ironstone ashlar, while the sides and rear are constructed of red brick. It features a slate roof with a coped gable parapet and kneelers, along with a brick ridge stack that has two 20th-century square shafts. Designed in the Tudor style, the building is a single storey with a one-window range on the front gable. The large three-light wood mullioned window has a central transom set in a chamfered opening, which is surrounded by an alternating block surround and a hood mould. The return sides have plank doors beneath brick segmental arches, and there is a lower brick range at the rear. The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value.
