Description

This is an early 17th-century town house, originally with a timber frame, plaster infill, and brick underbuilding. The front was rebuilt around 1646. It now serves as a shop and dwelling. The building is of three storeys and has a two-window front. The second floor is jettied. A 19th or 20th century shop front is located at the right end, incorporating a small-paned window to the left of the entrance and an entablature. To the left end is an entrance with a brick flat arch over a six-panel door, belonging to number 20A. A paired 12-pane sash window is located on the ground floor to the left of the centre. The first floor has large 6-pane sashes within architraves, and the second floor has similar, smaller 9-pane sashes. The timber frame displays close studding with braces to the second floor. A short, gabled rear wing has an end stack, along with a later addition and a lean-to extension under a catslide roof to the right.
