Description

The Stratheden Hotel, originally a town house, dates from 1673, with later 20th-century additions. Constructed of yellow-washed brick and featuring a renewed-tile roof, it is one of the earliest brick buildings in Stratford-upon-Avon. The building is two storeys with a four-window front. The first floor has brick pilasters with moulded caps, supporting wide eaves. A round-headed entrance was added in the 20th century to the left end, alongside two shop windows of early and late 20th-century design. First-floor windows are large, with 12/12-pane horned sashes. Three restored gabled dormers are present, each with barge boards and a two-light, small-paned casement window. A datestone in the centre of the building displays initials and the date "E and A G/ 1673" within circles.
