Description
Colbourne House is a house dating from the 17th century, which was altered and extended in the early 19th century. The original 17th-century section is likely made of sandstone, now rendered on the front, while the rear is constructed of brick in Flemish bond, featuring a dentilled eaves cornice. The house has a 20th-century tile roof with a large offset sandstone end stack to the right, accompanied by a 20th-century brick flue. It was originally designed with a two-unit plan and consists of two storeys plus an attic.
The front has a two-window range, with canted bays from the 19th century on the ground and first floors to the right, and a two-light casement window to the left. There is one 20th-century gabled dormer. The early 19th-century left facade features 16-pane sash windows on both the ground and first floors to the left, with two- and three-light casements in the remaining openings. The entrance includes a six-panelled door with a pilaster surround and a pediment. Inside, the house is noted for having a chamfered spine beam and an open fireplace with a chamfered timber bressumer in the 17th-century section.
