Description

A group of 10 chest tombs from the 18th and 19th centuries is located southeast, south, and southwest of the porch of the Church of St. Michael. These tombs are made of limestone. Two chest tombs, about 4 metres south of the porch, feature baluster corners and moulded ledgers, and are dated 1784 and 1804. Three chest tombs, approximately 1 metre southwest of the porch, also have baluster corners and moulded ledgers, dating to the early 19th century. There is a chest tomb about 5 metres southwest of the porch, dating to the early 18th century, which has heavily carved ends and volutes, along with a moulded ledger. Another chest tomb, located about 6 metres southwest of the porch, features baluster carriers and a moulded ledger, dating from the early 19th century and inscribed with dates from 1669, 1772, 1822, and 1856. A chest tomb approximately 9 metres south-southwest of the porch has baluster corners and a moulded ledger, dated 1787 and 1806. Another chest tomb, about 9 metres southwest of the porch, has a moulded ledger and is dedicated to Margaret Wilcox, dated 1758. Lastly, there is a chest tomb approximately 3 metres southeast of the porch, dated 1802.
