Description

The Hancock headstone, located approximately 11 meters north of the Church of St Mary and the Holy Cross, is a Grade II listed structure. It commemorates Esther Hancock, who died in 1720. The headstone is made of ashlar and features a plain frame surrounding a well-preserved inscription. The shaped head of the stone is adorned with reliefs of flowers. The verse inscribed reads: "Stand still reader spend/ a teare Think on ye dust/ that slumbers here/ And when thou readst ye/ state if me Think on ye/ glass that runns for thee." This headstone is noted for its good condition and craftsmanship.
