Description
This farm building, located approximately 6 meters southeast of Newnham Hall, is believed to date from the 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th century and further changes in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of regularly coursed limestone featuring alternating wide and narrow courses, with red sandstone dressings and alternating quoins. There is some brick patching present. The roof is covered with old plain tiles and has coped gable parapets.
To the left, there are large painted double-leaf plank doors with a painted wood lintel, while a smaller, lower opening to the right has a blackened wood lintel. The left side of the building has two low buttresses and two small openings. A string course runs along the base of the gable, which features a recessed chamfered three-light mullioned window with a label. This building likely belonged to the mansion of the Earls of Chichester, which was demolished in 1776.
