Description
The Church of Saint John the Baptist in Hillmorton, Rugby, is a Grade II* listed building that dates from the 13th and 14th centuries, with a tower that was restored in 1655. The clerestory was added in the 16th century, and the north aisle features buttresses from around 1609. The east window of the chancel was renewed in 1640. An early 19th-century south porch and a west gallery are also present.
Inside the church, there are several notable monuments, including an early 14th-century effigy of Margaret de Astley under a canopy, a mutilated monument to Thomas de Astley from around 1345, and a memorial to priest William de Walton from circa 1348. An early 15th-century brass and 18th-century wall tablets and pulpit can be found within. The pews date from around 1774, and the royal arms of Queen Anne are displayed. Additionally, there is a plain font from the 12th century and various 19th-century wall tablets.
