Description

Clifton Manor is an early 18th-century house with alterations from the 19th century. The building is constructed of brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a slate roof and brick stacks rising from the ridge. It is two storeys and an attic in height, with a five-window front. The front door is panelled and part-glazed, set within a reeded pilaster doorcase surmounted by a 19th-century pediment. Windows are 12-pane horned sashes, each with a moulded architrave and a gauged brick lintel above. A brick plinth runs along the base of the ground storey, and moulded wooden eaves are present. Two 20th-century dormers are visible in the roof. A one-bay extension to the left features part-glazed double doors. To the right, a single-storey extension with an attic incorporates a two-window front, with 12-pane sashes in the ground storey. Dormers with 16-pane casements are set into the roof above. The left facade is from the 19th century. Canted bays on the ground and first storeys on the right have 12-pane sashes, pilaster architraves and a dentil cornice. The rear facade includes 19th-century extensions. A Doric porch shelters an 8-panelled door, and to the left of this a canted bay features 12-pane sashes, with a Venetian sash window above. A dentil cornice is present on all 19th-century extensions. Inside the house, panels have been reset from a church, dated 1895. Original 18th-century doors, panelling and an altered oak staircase remain. The kitchen retains stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
