Description

This is a lodge, built in 1873 by Alfred Waterhouse for Washington Jackson as part of the Town Thorns estate. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings, topped with a hipped slate roof and deep, bracketed eaves. A brick axial stack features moulded stone strings and a cornice. The lodge is designed in the Italianate style.

The exterior presents a single-story, three-bay front, with a central projecting wing featuring a bowed front and a pair of small, round-headed windows with colonnettes. Matching single-light windows flank the central wing. A stone porch is situated in the angle on the right, with classical round arches supported by panelled piers and a moulded cornice, sheltering a panelled door. Similar single-light windows are found on the end elevations. The lodge includes rusticated stone quoins, a moulded stone plinth, and a moulded stone string below the eaves. The interior was not inspected.
