Description

These are a pair of attached estate houses, dating from around 1871 and designed by Joseph Goddard of Leicester. A rear extension was added in the late 20th century. The houses are built of polychrome red brick with blue brick and stone dressings, and have a steeply pitched patent tile roof with decorative arch-braced bargeboards on brackets with pierced spandrels. A brick axial stack rises from the centre, topped with a corbelled and weathered brick cap.

The houses are arranged in a T-shape with projecting gables in the centre and porches set into the angles on the left and right. The north front is symmetrical, with a 1:2:1 bay arrangement. The central gables feature arch-braced bargeboards on brackets with pierced spandrels and scissor bracing above. Twin pointed arch windows are on the first floor, topped with stone hoodmoulds. A square bay window with mullion-transom windows occupies the ground floor. The porches have canopies supported by curved braces and lancet windows above, which wrap around the left and right returns. A moulded stone stringcourse and plinth with blue brick weathering are also present.

The interior has not been inspected.

This is a well-preserved example of a pair of High Victorian Gothic estate houses.
