Description

The Old Rectory is a house, originally a rectory, dating from approximately 1830. It is constructed of stuccoed walls with an old tile hipped roof, set back behind deep eaves detailed with paired modillions. Brick stacks are located internally and at the ends of the building to the rear. The plan is L-shaped, with an additional wing to the left rear. The house is two storeys high, with a five-window front. The main front, facing the garden, has a slightly irregular appearance. The central entrance features a half-glazed, moulded six-panelled door with sidelights, all contained within a moulded wooden surround and topped by an elliptical fanlight with decorative glazing. A Greek Doric porch with a plain entablature provides shelter. The windows are 16-pane sashes. The rear elevation is irregular. A single-storey, canted angle projection has a flush six-panelled door and a curved hood supported by iron brackets. A round-arched, slightly curved staircase window is also present. Later, early 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars have been incorporated. The interior features an entrance hall with a semi-circular end wall. An open string staircase has stick balusters and column newels. A moulded dentil cornice runs along the hall and landing. The sidelights of the entrance door and the moulded round-arched landing window contain stained glass panels dating from approximately 1873. The landing window has an archway to the left and an alcove to the right, featuring a moulded round arch and brackets. Moulded six-panelled doors and reeded and gadrooned window and door surrounds, adorned with corner roundels, are found throughout the house. A room to the left contains a fireplace with a mid-18th century style carved wooden surround.
