Description
This is a group of five chest tombs located approximately 3.5 meters south of the vestry of the Church of St. Peter in Dunchurch. They date from the early 19th century and are made of moulded sandstone. Each tomb features a moulded plinth and top. The leftmost tomb, dated 1821, has sides with two fielded shaped panels and ogee stop-chamfered corners, with inscriptions dedicated to William Sutton. The next tomb, dated 1831, has a shallow pitched top and slate panels adorned with carved arrowhead ornaments at each corner, along with inscriptions for Sarah Bowen and others, and is inscribed 'Alcott, Rugby' at the base. The third tomb, dated 1835, has a running foliage band at the top and bottom, square corner balusters with leaf scroll panels, and sides divided by narrow moulded fielded panels, featuring an inscription for Thomas Sutton. The fourth and fifth tombs have two shallow fielded panels and gadrooned corners, with the fourth tomb inscribed for the Mason family.
