Description
GREAT PACKINGTON PACKINGTON LANE SP28SW (West side) 8/62 The Dairy Farmhouse - II House. C15 open-hall with floor and stack inserted in mid C17. Timber-framed with later brick infill. Plain-tiled roof and ridge stack, rebuilt above the ridge. 3 bay lobby-entry plan replacing the original plan of the open-hall. One storey and attic. 2 C20 gable dormers on the front. two 3-light C20 wood casements on either side of lobby-entry doorway. Late C19 timbered, gable porch. Parlour bay at west end. 1 storey and attic. Timber-framed and plain-tiled. Chimney stack to north wall. One C20, three-light, wood casement on the front. Exposed framing of small panels. Interior: Evidence of open-hall visible in roof. General smoke blackening to the trench purlin roof and the centre truss. Most of the common rafters have been replaced but some of the original remain above the bay to the east. Inserted mid C17 stack with back-to-back inglenook hearths, splat baluster staircase and stop-chamfered ceilings to ground floor. Parlour bay has substantial C16 framing with short King-post to the closed truss between the parlour and the open-hall. At ground floor this wall has an ogee head to a doorway, now concealed. Late C17 corner fireplace with original mantel to first floor chamber of this wing.
