Description
No. 64 High Street is a cottage with origins dating back to the 16th century or earlier, with further developments in the 17th century. It is timber-framed, with infill and rebuilding done in colourwashed brick. The cottage features a thatched roof and a 19th-century brick stack. It has a two-unit plan and includes 20th-century additions to the rear. The building is one storey high with an attic and has a two-window range.
On the left side, there is an old plank door next to a three-light casement window. To the right, there is a canted bay and another three-light casement window. All windows have glazing bars, and the swept dormers feature cross-glazed two-light casements, all of which are from the 20th century. The right return side has renewed crucks.
Inside, there is a full cruck truss that shows signs of smoke blackening. A central brick stack, likely inserted later, has an open fireplace with a partly restored bressumer and a large hood.
