Description
No. 1 Silver Street is a house that has been converted into an office. It was built in the early 19th century and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof with brick end stacks. It has a double-depth plan and is designed in a Georgian style, standing three storeys tall with a symmetrical three-window range.
The ground floor has been altered, featuring a concrete band above and a top modillioned cornice. The entrance includes a doorcase with an architrave, frieze, and a consoled swan-neck pediment. The ground-floor windows have sills and small-paned glazing, while the upper windows also have sills and are topped with rubbed brick flat arches. The first-floor windows are 16-pane sashes, and the second-floor windows are 8-pane sashes. There are a pair of end stacks on the building. The rear of the house has segmental-headed windows and a small hipped wing, along with a later single-storey wing. The interior has been altered but the building is included for its group value.
