Description
The dovecote, located approximately 100 meters west of Heybridge Farmhouse, dates from around 1863 and is part of a planned farmstead associated with the Phillips family of Heath House and Tean Hall Mill. It is constructed of red brick with stone quoins and features a steep, banded tile pyramidal roof with tilted and bracketed eaves, topped by a wrought iron weather vane. The dovecote has a square plan and stands about four stories high, with a landing stage set at half height. There is a cornice on corbels with nesting box entries positioned approximately 600 millimeters above. A projecting stone band over the cart entry, likely built at the same time, includes double boarded doors. This structure serves as a prominent landmark within a farm layout that has undergone significant alterations since its construction, marked by the initials "J W P". Please note that Heybridge Farmhouse and its associated farm buildings are not included in this listing.
