Description
The Spring Head Basin, located 10 meters north of the gates to Biddulph Grange, dates from the early to mid-19th century. This stone structure is designed in a Neo-Norman style and is set back from the pathway. It features Norman pilasters, capitals, and plain imposts supporting a zig-zag-moulded round arch. A semi-circular niche is adorned with a lion head spout, all topped by five massive chisel-drafted hammer-dressed voussoir blocks with gauged edges. The basin itself is circular with a roll-moulded rim and a semi-circular surround.
