Description
The wall and basin enclosing the Italian Garden to the northwest of Alton Park is an early 19th-century structure made of ashlar stone with edged herringbone tooling. The wall stretches approximately 46 meters in length, aligned northeast to southwest and facing southeast. It features a lobed top with a pedestalled statue positioned in the gap between each lobe. At the northeast end, a basin with an everted rim extends from the wall. This wall is part of a cohesive architectural design that includes the nearby White Bridge. It contributes to the significant garden layout at Alton Towers, which is recognized as Grade I on the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission Gardens Register.
