Description
The Orangery is a former orangery built around 1824, likely designed by Robert Abraham. It is constructed of ashlar and features a wrought iron dome. The building is aligned east-west and faces south, consisting of one storey with a layout of 1:4:1 bays. The central bays have rounded segmental arches with glazed spandrels, supported by openwork piers. The end bays also have rounded segmental arches, which are flanked by panelled pilasters and feature bracketed eaves. Notably, the left-hand bay retains its decorative glazed dome. At the time of the last survey in May 1985, the Orangery was in a derelict condition. This structure is part of the significant garden layout at Alton Towers, which is included in the Grade I listing on the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission Gardens Register.
