Description

Dairy House Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1635 with 19th-century alterations. It is built of ashlar with a tile roof, featuring verge parapets with ball finials and side stacks. The building has a 'U'-plan that has been modified to a rectangular shape and consists of two storeys and an attic. It has floor strings with labels above the attic windows and is arranged in a 2:3:1 bay configuration under gables. The windows are a mix of 2-, 3-, and 4-light mullioned styles. The outer gables project, with the left-hand gable featuring two ranges of windows and a small oculus at the apex. The right-hand gable, which also projects, has 4-light windows and displays the initials "IMB" for John and Mary Biddulph along with the date 1635. The apex of the three recessed dormer gables is inscribed with 'IHS' alongside a heart pierced by nails, and 'MAR' with a heart pierced by an arrow. The porch, which is aligned with the left wing, features an enriched oculus and a pilastered doorpiece with ball finials on the cornice, leading to a ledged door. A plain wall with a 2-light mullioned window separates the porch from the right-hand wing, marking the centre of the building on both the ground and first floors. The side elevations have two bays of 2-light mullioned windows. Inside, there is a flat baluster staircase with short flights located to the left of the porch.
