Description

The Scarrat Memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 25 metres north of the tower of the Church of St Leonard in Ipstones, Staffordshire. It commemorates Thos. Scarrat, who died in 1821. The tomb is made of stone and features incised sides. At the corners, it has free-standing waisted balusters that are gadrooned below the waist. These balusters support a frieze adorned with fleurons at the centre and corners, all beneath a corniced top slab, which was out of position at the time of the resurvey in April 1985. The memorial is similar in type to the Furnihough memorial nearby.
