Description

Elmhurst is a house dating from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of coursed and dressed stone with a patterned tile roof, verge parapets and finials, and an eaves blocking course on the cornice. The house has two triple-shaft brick ridge stacks. The plan is based on parallel ranges. The two-storey front has two narrow projecting gables inset from each end. There are four windows in the front, with labelled mullions and transoms to the projecting bays (3-light to the first floor and 4-lights to the ground floor), and two-light labelled mullion windows to the central recess. A moulded pointed-arch features above the central entrance, which has a glazed door; a shield plaque is positioned above the door. A later set-back wing extends to the right, containing two windows, and a cyma recta stepped parapet defines a flanking lean-to.
