Description
The garden walls located to the south and east of Whitehough are dated 1719, with additions from the late 18th century. They are constructed from coursed dressed and squared stone. The walls extend from the gazebo to the west and continue beyond a large barn to the east. The central and southernmost section, approximately 25 meters long, is from the late 18th century. The walls rise to rusticated piers at the central opening and at the corners; the outer piers feature ball finials, while the inner ones have urns. The eastern return of the wall steps up the slope and has pitched coping. This section begins against the house and includes what appears to be a fireplace. The eastern part has rounded copings and an opening at the east end, which is dated on the lintel on the north side and inscribed with "17 R M 19".
