Description

The Spring Head Basin, located 15 meters south-west of the Great Wall of China in Biddulph Grange, is an ornamental garden building constructed between 1848 and 1860 by John Bateman. It is made of stone blocks and features two chamfered column bases with a circular basin situated between them on a rough-hewn base. There is a moulded lintel above, which was presumably not part of the original design, and it was noted to be on site during the resurvey in September 1984. The basin is set within an artificial garden that includes massive imported local boulders.
