Description

Wolseley Bridge Tea Rooms and associated buildings is a house that has been converted into tea rooms, along with additions of farm buildings and a former parish hall. It dates from the 17th century and was altered in the late 18th century, with a rear range added in the mid-19th century and a hall built in the late 19th to early 20th century. The house is painted roughcast over brick with a plain tiled roof. It features a projecting brick end stack on the left and a ridge stack to the right of center. The building is two storeys high with three bays, including two-light casements on the first floor and twelve-pane glazing bar sash windows on the ground floor to the left. There is a small 1960s shop window on the right side of the ground floor with a glazed door to the left. A panelled door with an 18th-century pedimented door surround is located to the right of center, indicating that the building may have originally had a three-unit plan with a baffle entry. A boarded door is present in the left-hand gable end. The hall block on the right is made of red brick with a plain tiled roof, featuring three windows and three doorways in the right-hand gable end. The continuous rear range from the 19th century is two storeys tall with irregular fenestration, and the left-hand section likely served as a former stable with a loft above. Inside, the front range shows signs of former timber-framing, including parts of the wall-plate and wall-post on the first floor. There is a possible blocked doorway with a timber arch on the internal face of the front wall, an inglenook fireplace on the ground floor, and heavy chamfered beams in the ceilings of the ground floor. The former hall, now a gift shop, is not of special interest.
