Description
The Walled Garden and Gardeners Cottage, dating from around 1806, is possibly designed by Samuel Wyatt for Viscount Anson. It features a combination of brick and ashlar construction. The gardeners' house is made of ashlar with a hipped slate roof and has quoins. It is a two-storey building with four bays. The central segment-headed opening has double doors flanked by glazed side panels and a large oversight, which originally led into a now-removed conservatory. On either side of this opening are single doorways with ashlar moulded surrounds, and above them are four glazing bar sashes set within a continuous cill band, topped by a moulded ashlar cornice and a low parapet.
The surrounding brick walls, standing three meters high with ashlar coping, form the northern side of a large trapezoidal enclosed garden. Central rusticated ashlar gatepiers are located on the southern wall. The central bisecting wall features a large opening with rusticated quoins. The entrance gateway at the northern end of the west wall has large rusticated gatepiers topped with pyramidal caps.
