Description

The Triumphal Arch at Shugborough Hall, built around 1765, commemorates Admiral Anson and his wife. It is a replica of Hadrian's Arch in Athens. Above the arch, there is an additional structure featuring busts of the Admiral and his wife, which flank a central naval trophy created by Scheemakers. The spandrels of the arch contain medallions that are significant to naval history.
