Description
The Hayes House is a large detached house dating from the early to mid 19th century, located off Longton Road in Oulton. It has an irregular plan and is cement rendered, standing two storeys high. The front features a three-window projecting bay at the center topped with an open pediment, and there are a total of nine windows, generally without glazing bars. Plain pilasters extend over the two storeys, and there is a doorway to the right with a plain Doric porte cochère supported by eight columns. The garden elevation is styled similarly but includes a three-light canted bay that is tiered over two storeys, along with a five-light bow window on the ground floor. The house has a hipped slate roof crowned with an ornate stair lantern. Inside, notable features include a wrought iron anthemion motif stair balustrade, fielded panelled doors, elaborate cornices, and contemporary fireplaces.
