Description
Ivy Cottage and Ivy Mill, dating from around 1740, have undergone later alterations and additions. The mill was initially used for linseed oil, then as a bone grinding mill, and finally for stone grinding. It was formerly known as Oil Mill and Goodwin's Mill. The building is constructed of painted brick with a tiled roof. Access is via a bridge over the stream, leading to an upper storey entrance through a plain doorway, flanked by casement windows. At the rear, there is a pitch back waterwheel that measures 19 feet in diameter and 6 feet wide. Inside, there are two pans driven from a common upright shaft, one located on a floor above the other. Attached to the southwest is the wash tub room, with the drying kiln to the west and Ivy Cottage to the south. Ivy Cottage is also made of painted brick with a tiled roof and consists of three storeys. It features irregular fenestration, primarily 19th-century wood casement windows, a plain doorway with a tiled wood porch, and a modern lean-to that is partly tiled and partly glazed.
