Description
Nos. 16 and 16A on High Street are two shops built in the early 19th century. The structure is made of brick with ashlar dressings and features a parapeted roof with a brick end stack. It has a double-depth plan and is designed in a Georgian style. The building stands three storeys tall and has a three-window range. There is a sill band on the first floor and a top cornice with a blocking course. The shop fronts are from the 20th century, with a round-headed entry on the left end that has a stucco moulding, part of which is missing, and rusticated stucco above, along with a plank door. The windows have wedge lintels; the first-floor windows feature 12-pane sashes, while the second-floor windows have sills and 6-pane sashes. At the rear, there is a gabled wing. Inside, there is a stick-baluster stair and cornices in the first-floor rooms. The building is included for its group value.
