Description

Brookhouse Farm Cottage and the attached barn are a farmhouse and barn dating from the 17th century, with later alterations and additions. The buildings are constructed of red brick in English garden wall bond, topped with plain tile roofs and featuring brick integral end stacks. They are aligned north-east to south-west, with the barn located to the south-west and the house to the north-east.

The barn is a single storey with three bays. It has a blocked threshing floor doorway in the center, an inserted sliding door to the left, and a segmental-headed door and window to the right. The roof verges are raised.

The house is primarily two storeys with a single bay on the left, featuring 20th-century casements and a gabled porch with a shaped tile roof. To the right is a slightly lower single-bay extension that is one storey with a gable-lit attic, which includes a segmental-headed casement. The main house displays an exposed timber roof truss on the right-hand gable, which has a central vertical strut above the collar, along with one pair of purlins and a ridge piece. This property is included as a rare example of an early enclosure farmstead.
