Description

Moat House is a farmhouse, likely dating from the early 16th century, with an 18th-century addition and subsequent alterations. It is timber framed, with brick additions, and has plain tile roofs. The external sandstone and brick stack is lateral, and there is also a brick integral end stack. The building has a T-shaped plan, comprising a 16th-century wing aligned east-west with a massive lateral stack to the south and an 18th-century range aligned north-south. The 16th-century wing is gabled and two storeys high, with an attic. It has two bays, the ground floor rendered, while the first floor features closely spaced studs. A roof truss, with V-struts above the collar and two pairs of purlins, is visible. The 18th-century range is two storeys high and has a first-floor band. It contains four casement windows with segmental heads, and a blocked window to the first floor left. A six-panelled door, with reeded pilasters, is located to the left of centre. Moat House is situated within the remains of a moat.
