Description

Wheaton Aston Bridge, built around 1832, is an accommodation bridge over the Shropshire Union Canal. It features limewashed brickwork with stone coping and a string course. The bridge has a single elliptical arch with a slightly concave-sided plan, a cambered carriageway, and a parapet. The parapet has half round coping and piers at each end, along with cast iron hawser spurs located at the springings on the towpath side. The Shropshire Union Canal was engineered by Thomas Telford and completed in 1835.
