Description

Lapley Wood Bridge, also known as Bridge No. 17, is a road bridge over the Shropshire Union Canal, built around 1832. It features limewashed brickwork with stone copings and string courses. The bridge has a single elliptical arch with a slightly concave side plan, a cambered carriageway, and parapets. The copings are half round, with piers at each end and cast iron hawser spurs located at the springings on the towpath side. The Shropshire Union Canal, which this bridge crosses, was engineered by Thomas Telford and completed in 1835.
