Description

The sluice house on the canal, dating from the third quarter of the 18th century, is possibly part of Capability Brown's landscape design. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings, although the roof has been removed. The gable end facing north features a modillioned open pediment that frames an arched entrance, which now houses 20th-century sluice gear. The structure at the rear has been altered. This building is included in the listing due to its classical front facing the canal and is likely to have originally served as a boat house for the beginning of the journey to the lake by canal.
