Description
This barn, located approximately 50 yards north-west of Pillaton Old Hall, likely has a core dating to the 16th century, with substantial additions and alterations from the early 18th century. Constructed primarily of red brick with a slate roof and a brick ridge stack, the barn is a five-bay range aligned north-west/south-east. It is a single-story structure, partially lofted, featuring dentilled eaves and rusticated ashlar quoins of varying lengths. Most of the windows are now blocked with corrugated iron, with the exception of an early 19th-century loft window on the left side, which has a cast iron latticed casement. The central bay and the bay to the right of centre contain large double doors, the right-hand one with a segmental head, with a blocked door to the left of the centre. Ventilation loops are arranged in two tiers in the bays to the right and to the left of centre. Internally, the walls feature timber wall posts.
