Description
Green Farmhouse is a farmhouse with medieval origins, dating back to the 15th century, that was extensively remodeled around 1600 and altered and re-faced in the early 19th century. It is constructed of yellowish-brown brick and has a plain tile roof featuring an axial ridge stack to the left of center and an end stack to the right. The building likely started as an open hall with two or three bays. Around 1600, a first floor and stack were added, and a single-bay extension was made to the right-hand end. In the early 19th century, the eaves were raised, and the entire structure was re-faced in brick.
The farmhouse is two storeys high, with a dentilled eaves cornice. It has three windows, which are three-light late 19th-century casements with plastered lintels. The entrance is through a late 19th-century gabled porch located between the second and third windows from the left. There are mid-19th-century lean-to additions on the left side and at the rear of the building.
Inside, a cross-wall in line with the entrance porch features exposed square panelling with wattle and daub infill plastered over. There are large fireplaces on either side of the inserted stack, and the two principal ground floor rooms have moulded spine and cross-beams. Upstairs, directly above the timber-framed cross-wall, there appears to be the remains of a cruck blade, which was concealed by wallpaper at the time of the last survey in 1984.
