Description

Johnson's Wood Farmhouse is probably of 17th-century origin, with significant remodelling in the late 18th century and later additions and alterations. The building is constructed of red brick on a sandstone plinth, likely concealing a timber frame, with dressed sandstone used for the lower parts of the rear wall and quoins to the right-hand gable end. It has a plain tiled roof.

The farmhouse is one storey and attic, featuring a brick floor band and a dentilled eaves cornice. The front has a three-window arrangement, with mid-20th century casement windows set within mid-19th century segmental arches. There are gabled eaves dormers above. A blocked entrance, originally between the first and second windows from the left, is visible, while the current entrance is in the left-hand gable end. A brick ridge stack is positioned to the right of centre and an end stack is located to the left. The outline of the original roof line is visible on both gable ends.

A sandstone-walled outshut extends to the rear and was remodelled and extended in the mid-20th century. The interior reveals some exposed timber framing with square panels in the back wall, which was originally an external wall. There is an inglenook fireplace, with chamfered spine beams and joists, and a cellar is located beneath the right-hand room.
