Description
The garden house located at the rear of 21 Larchwood is a summer house built around the 1870s. It features a timber frame set on a coursed ashlar base and has a gabled tile roof. The structure consists of a single chamber and has deeply overhanging eaves supported by shaped brackets at the entrance front. A central round-headed doorway is flanked by similar windows, all adorned with shaped pendant wooden keyblocks. This building is particularly notable for its complete set of Minton & Hollins decorative tiles that remain intact on the internal walls, including a medallion on the rear wall. It is a rare example of a fully tiled summerhouse, although the attribution of its design to John Ruskin has not been confirmed.
