Description
The garden seating and flanking urns are located at the north end of the terrace in front of the east side of Keele Hall. They were likely created between 1860 and 1880, possibly by the designer William Andrews Nesfield. The structure is made of sandstone ashlar and features a semi-circular garden seat, which is flanked by two highly decorated urns on square pedestals at the front.
These elements are included in association with Keele Hall. Nesfield had proposed plans for an arboretum as early as the 1840s, although these plans were never realized. It is likely that the garden seating was installed during the time of Salvin's rebuilding of the hall. This type of garden furniture was a common feature in early and mid-Victorian garden design.
