Description

The Dean memorial is a chest tomb located about 7 meters south of the south-west corner of the tower of the Church of St John the Baptist. It dates from around 1819 and is made of sandstone ashlar. The tomb has a rectangular plan with a moulded plinth and capping. The corners feature a triplet of rolls that create a course of reeding. The inscription panels are adorned with fluted fans at the corners. It commemorates Elizabeth Dean, who died in 1819, along with various other members of the family. This memorial is a notable example of its type.
