3/19 Cooper headstone about 7m south-east of south porch of the Church of St John the Baptist

GV II

Headstone. William Cooper, died 1803. Large rectangular sandstone slab with moulded edge and double inscription panel below a shaped band inscribed "The trumpet shall sound and the Dead shall be raised". In the spandrels and at the top are carved in fairly high relief, trumping angels and a head. Included on account of carvings which, though somewhat archaic in style, are representative of the local folk-art of. the period.
