Description
The remains of a chimney from the former Watermills Colliery, built in 1840, are located on the southwest side of Apedale Road in Newcastle under Lyme. This structure is made of red brick and features decorative elements in yellow and blue brick. It is a large square structure with broad chamfered corners and recessed panels on each face, showcasing yellow and blue brick diaper work. Above each panel are stone panels that are inscribed with dates and mottoes, although most are badly eroded and illegible. Two visible inscriptions read "Regard the End" and "Live and Let Live," while the initials RFH can be seen on another panel.
