Description

The Haywood memorial is a chest tomb located about 4 meters south of the south porch of the Church of St John the Baptist. It dates from around 1790 and is made of sandstone ashlar. The tomb has a rectangular shape and features a moulded plinth and capping, with square corner balusters and a frieze decorated with rosette and geometrical motifs. On the north side, there is a moulded inscription panel that includes a long eulogy in memory of Elizabeth, who died in 1790, the wife of Thomas Haywood, who died in 1801 and is commemorated on the south side. The west face has a later inscription, which is largely indecipherable, dedicated to Elizabeth, the wife of John Bourne Boulton.
