Description
Comberford Lodge Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse with significant additions made in 1801. It is constructed of red brick, partly rendered, and features slate and plain tile roofs, along with four brick stacks. The east front has three bays and is three storeys high, topped with a shallow hipped slate roof and deeply overhanging eaves. The ground floor is rendered to imitate ashlar, with rustication, while the upper floors are flanked by side pilasters.
The central doorway features a part-glazed four-panel door with a fanlight, set within a porch supported by two fluted Ionic columns and two fluted Doric pilasters, which hold up a flat hood. On either side of the doorway are single two-light casements with narrow horizontal glazing bars, framed in moulded rendered surrounds. Above, there are three similar casements in moulded surrounds, and above again, three smaller similar casements, with the central one also in a moulded surround.
Flanking the east front are single-storey round-ended wings, each with a central two-light casement featuring narrow horizontal glazing bars. At the rear, there is an earlier two-storey brick wing with irregular fenestration. Inside the rear range, there are some chamfered spine beams and panelled doors. The newer front includes shutters and doors, as well as a large fireplace alcove in the drawing room. In front of the farmhouse, a low brick wall with rendered coping and spearheaded railings encloses a small semi-circular garden.
