Description
Tamhorn Park Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse with later alterations and additions. It is constructed of red brick with flared brick headers, and has hipped plain tile roofs and brick ridge stacks. Originally L-shaped, the farmhouse comprises a principal range aligned north-east/south-west facing south-east, a rear wing to the north-west aligned north-west/south-east, and a second rear wing added in the early 19th century, together with an extension block to the north-east angle.
The two-storey and attic farmhouse has a chamfered sandstone plinth and continuous storey bands. It features five windows with glazing bar sashes and segmental heads, three attic dormers with casements and hipped roofs, and a central 20th-century half-glazed door with a rectangular overlight. A 19th-century extension is set back to the right, featuring a double eaves band, three windows with 20th-century casements within 19th-century surrounds and segmental heads.
The interior includes an early 18th-century dog-leg staircase with heavy turned balusters, a timber-framed doorway in the attic with a three-centred head, and elbowed upper cruck roof trusses.
Tamhorn Park Farmhouse was formerly owned by Sir Robert Peel, who used it as a hunting lodge.
