Description
This barn, located approximately 25 meters north of Gainsborough Farmhouse, dates back to 1727 and has seen minor alterations over the years. It is constructed of red brick and features three tiers of vents, with a tiled roof that formerly had verge parapets. The barn is extremely long, measuring about 60 meters, and stands at roughly two stories high.
There are two threshing floor entrances set back from the ends, each with stone hinge blocks, segmental relieving arches, and double boarded doors. On the left end, there is a wide door with a segmental relieving arch and a plaque above it inscribed with "1727/JOHN SMITH." To the right, there is a 20th-century opening. This barn is part of a group built by John Smith, which includes structures at Ivy House Farm and Woodend Farm, with this barn being the largest of the group. The interior has not been inspected.
