Description
The Stonnall Village Animal Pound is an animal pound that likely dates from the 18th century, with some earlier materials, and was repaired in the 19th century. It underwent restoration and partial rebuilding in the early 21st century.
The pound's walls are made of red brick with lime mortar, featuring dark fired brick bull nosed copings. It encloses a trapezium-shaped area of approximately 23 square meters. The walls are about 1.2 meters high and have diagonally set buttresses at the corners. The brickwork is laid in stretcher bond, with some sections in header bond. A timber gate is located in a central opening of the slightly thicker west wall, providing access to the pound. Inside, the floor is covered in gravel.
